Finally get a grip on your data with FileMaker

Automation of everyday tasks

17. April 2020By Karsten Risseeuw5 Minutes

Who is working is generating data, i.e. information about the work. From the customer address to the production status, data is collected, offers and invoices are written and a thousand other things are processed. Most daily tasks are repetitive and can therefore be recorded in a structured way. This increases transparency, reduces the risk of errors and enables a targeted approach to business.

Use the time in lockdown

We live in a challenging time with unique opportunities. The COVID-19 virus will shut down the global economy for months. Governments “close” entire countries, and suddenly everyone is forced to improvise. It will take some time before it’s all over. It is still unclear how any exit strategy will work out after a relaxation. It seems certain, on the other hand, that the consequences of this period will linger with us for a long time to come.

I consider myself as pragmatic. I ask myself what I can do today which helps me tomorrow. During this time one must keep a cool head and look ahead courageously. We can think about that now.

Those who pave the way for new options today will have better chances of standing their ground in the future. The evaluation and simplification of internal company processes play an important role here. Think of automation requirements in day-to-day operations.

Now is a good time to contemplate workflows and software in your company.

Automation with FileMaker

FileMaker is a platform to develop business solutions. It’s not a specific software solution, it’s the software that allows you to create solutions. It’s like speaking of a word processor, which can be used to write different texts.

Many businesses use Excel to manage their data. This is a very powerful tool, but Excel is not a database, nor does it allow you to create intuitive interfaces. FileMaker, however, organizes data in an intuitive way. It’s used to create attractive and efficient software solutions that work on both Mac and Windows, and can also run on the web or iOS. One data format for a wide range of applications!

With FileMaker, you can automate business processes and bring them together on one platform. FileMaker solutions can be secured, shared over a network, and accessed by multiple people with their individual accounts and access rights.

In short, with FileMaker you can take control of your data.

FM Starter 2.06

FM Starter 2.06

Italic has just released FM Starter 2.06. FM Starter is a start-up file for new FileMaker projects. It contains functions and modules that are required in almost every project, such as dynamic global navigation, multilingual text labels, user management and much more.

About this version

The navigation has now been better integrated with the user administration, so that the navigation table is now correctly structured depending on the selected group. The ToDo module has also been improved. There is now a more generous overview of changes for the respective version, as well as detailed step-by-step instructions on how to apply the new functions or bug fixes for projects that have already started.

The following changes have been made:

Bug fixes

  • Navigation can again be correctly limited to a user group.

  • New example file with improvements

Activation codes for your own FileMaker solutions

FM Registrations can be used to create activation codes for your own FileMaker solutions. Almost any parameters can be entered in the encrypted activation code, which are then decrypted again in the own solution during registration. In this way, for example, the expiry date, number of users and many other details can be activated or expanded using a license code. With the help of FM Registrations, FileMaker developers can both activate and configure their own solutions.

FileMaker Pro 16

FileMaker released a major upgrade to its database software last night. All Kursiv products that were created on the basis of FileMaker Pro are compatible with the new version of FileMaker Pro 16. This concerns:

  • KIM Keywording
  • FM starter
  • FM registrations

None of our products already use the possibilities of the new software. However, the file format (FMP12) was retained. That is why all of our products run smoothly with the new version.

Create license keys for FileMaker solutions

Kursiv Software has just launched a new product for Filemaker developers. FM Registrations is Filemaker-based software that allows developers to sell, market, and even configure their own Filemaker standard solutions more easily.

FM Registrations consists of a code generator and a sample file. The developer registers his own FileMaker solutions, licensees and license keys in the code generator. The example file shows how to register the decryption of the license codes in your own solutions.

Simplify Filemaker development

Simplify database development with Filemaker

Well over 25 million Filemaker Pro licenses sold in just a few years. That makes you sit up and take notice. Filemaker, an Apple subsidiary, develops high-performance database software that is sold worldwide in various language versions. It is likely to be one of the best-selling, if not the best-selling, database software in the world.

Filemaker shines with ease of use, good design options, and support for a wide variety of platforms (Mac, Windows, iOS, Web). This makes getting started with database development particularly easy. With the help of Filemaker, business processes can be efficiently mapped and structured.

Many users start with one of the sample files that Filemaker ships with the software. Indeed, solutions to simple tasks are readily available. However, if the requirements increase, more know-how is required. Either you build up the know-how in your own company, or an external developer is brought in. There is also a third option: Obtain a starter solution from an external developer. This accelerates your own development.

This simplifies database development

If you want to get the database development going quickly and easily, the use of a starter solution is also suitable. A starting solution is a Filemaker file that has already solved many standard tasks. As a starting point for your own database development, such help can drastically shorten the development time.

With FM starter Kursiv offers such a tried and tested starting solution. On the website there is more information on this. The starting solution offers the following, already integrated modules:

  • Dynamic navigation
  • Multilingual user interface
  • Security settings
  • User accounts
  • Many other modules for searching, formatting phone numbers, etc.
  • Style templates
  • Separate windows for users, administrators and developers
  • Simple address database as an example of implementation

FM Starter: Development environment for Filemaker Pro

FM Starter: Development environment for Filemaker Pro

Filemaker is perhaps the best-selling database in the world. The database can be used very quickly and results can be achieved quickly. It is a flexible and very good tool for mapping business processes and good software solutions can be created with it quickly.

Italic has a starter file for Filemaker on offer, with which Filemaker developers even faster and easier get results.

“FM Starter” is a development environment that covers many basic requirements, such as dynamic navigation, user administration and many other components. FM Starter is designed from the ground up for multilingualism and all information can be easily parameterized.

FM Starter is suitable, for example, for setting up new project proposals quickly. In no time you can create dummy projects with your own navigation and any number of pages for your own masks, lists and other tasks. In this way, you can talk specifically about processes, workflows and the like, even before the actual development has started.

FM Starter offers simple address management implemented as an example solution. FM Starter has its own website, which can be reached at the following address:
