FlightCheck 2024 supports CreativeCloud 2024

FlightCheck 2024 supports CreativeCloud 2024

New version of FlightCheck now also supports the latest version of Adobe CC

The best document check for prepress is called FlightCheck. The new version supports more formats than ever before.

Adobe CreativeCloud

If you work with Adobe CreativeCloud, you can always download the latest versions. It is therefore important that additional tools support these new versions. The latest version of FlightCheck 2024, which has just been launched, also supports the new document format from Adobe CreativeCloud 2024.

Document check via drag-and-drop

It couldn’t be simpler. Documents from InDesign, XPress, Publisher, PDF and many other formats are automatically recognized by FlightCheck. It is therefore sufficient to simply drag such a document onto the FlightCheck 2024 program to check the document immediately for possible errors. Drag-and-drop is all it takes.

If you want to parameterize the result even better, or, for example, map the requirements of the printing press in the test, then all elements can be easily adjusted.

Another advantage of Adobe products is the Markzware menu in InDesign, for example. FlightCheck 2024 preflighting can be called up directly from there.

Detection of image manipulation with artificial intelligence

If you check Photoshop files from Creative Cloud 2024, for example, image elements that were created using artificial intelligence (such as Adobe Firefly) are also marked.

Ensure quality

Preflighting software can be used to ensure the output quality. But that’s not the only advantage. During work preparation, you can also check the incoming documents for possible sources of error, missing images, special colors and the like. This simplifies communication with the customer, shortens any queries and prevents undetected errors from being recognized during or after production. Preflighting prevents costly errors.

All Markzware conversion solutions are now available for Mac and Windows

All Markzware conversion solutions are now available for Mac and Windows

All products are based on the same new MarkzOne technology

9. March 2023In PublishingBy Karsten Risseeuw2 Minutes

This week Markzware has completed its line of conversion solutions. All data conversion software solutions are now available for Mac and Windows.

Conversion of publishing documents

Markzware conversion solutions shine in prepress. The major publishing platforms all come with dedicated document formats. Markzware products convert InDesign documents to Affinity Publisher, or QuarkXPress documents to InDesign, for example. PDF documents can also be converted and turned into editable documents.

  • IDMarkz: Converts INDD documents
  • QXPMarkz: Converts QXP documents
  • PDF Markz: Converts PDF documents
  • OmniMarkz: Converts INDD, QXP and PDF documents (the all-rounder)

For these conversions, Markzware has developed its own new technology, called the MarkzOne engine. All products work with this engine, which does not require any other publishing software installed to perform conversions. This makes you completely independent of other licenses. The conversion solutions can therefore also be used without any problems in work preparation.

For example, if you have an archive of older INDD documents from InDesign, but you don’t have an active subscription to Creative Cloud, you won’t be able to open the documents. However, IDMarkz or OmniMarkz can be used to quickly and reliably convert INDD documents to QuarkXPress or Affinity Publisher, output them as image files, or check them for various characteristics.

Accordingly, the current products provide Mac and Windows users with good solutions for everyday digital life, allowing digital documents to be saved in other formats. This is comparable to the transfer of old typesetting to a new structure.

How the Markzware conversion solutions work

23. February 2022In News, PublishingBy Karsten Risseeuw1 Minute

Markzware conversion solutions have been proven for many years. There are good conversions for documents from Adobe InDesign (INDD), QuarkXPress (QXP) and PDF documents (PDF). Recently there is OmniMarkz, which combines all three individual products and can therefore convert all of the file formats mentioned here. OmniMarkz is something like the Swiss army knife for publishing documents.

The following video is an introduction to OmniMarkz. However, because the products all work in the same way, the video can also be viewed as an introduction to IDMarkz, QXPMarkz and PDFMarkz.

IDMarkz SE released for Windows

IDMarkz SE released for Windows

Convert InDesign documents without InDesign

14. January 2022In NewsBy Karsten Risseeuw2 Minutes

Markzware conversion tools have proven themselves for many years. The switch from plug-ins to stand-alone software products has been completed. The only downer was the lack of Windows programs. IDMarkz, for example, was only available for Mac, not Windows. That is now changing with IDMarkz SE.

The key to converting InDesign documents

Markzware has just released IDMarkz SE, a Windows version of the popular IDMarkz for Mac. Windows development is new and the products are not quite the same in functionality. That is probably why there are now different versions for Mac and Windows.

IDMarkz SE converts INDD and INDT files from InDesign to IDML in no time at all. The IDML format is not only suitable for opening newer InDesign documents, for example in older InDesign versions. An IDML import is also supported by Affinity Publisher or QuarkXPress. This means that documents can also be transferred to other publishing platforms.

The conversion is easy. It doesn’t even need InDesign installed for this software to work. IDMarkz SE is a stand-alone software solution and opens InDesign files directly. The conversion to IDML takes place in no time and the result can be viewed in a preview window. There you can – as with the Mac version – scroll through the pages and get an approximate representation. In addition, the elements of the file, such as images or fonts, are evaluated and summarized as information.

From the preview, the IDML document can now be opened in various other programs. These include InDesign, XPress and Affinity Publisher.

In contrast to the Mac version, however, various other export options cannot be used at the moment. For example, there is no way to export the IDML file to JPEG, TIFF or other image formats. It is still unclear whether this functionality will be implemented in the future. The software is under development and Markzware limits itself to well-functioning solutions.

Windows users can now purchase IDMarkz SE at Kursiv. You can choose between an endless license without updates or a cheaper annual license including updates.

Markzware products adapted to Big Sur and Apple Silicon

Markzware adapts the latest products. IDMarkz and QXPMarkz now run on both Big Sur and Apple Silicon Macs.

Apple has announced some groundbreaking new technologies. The MacOS 11 Big Sur operating system is now supported by QXPMarkz and IDMarkz. Also supported are the new Apple Silicon machines, which are being shipped these days for the first time.

Both products are now Universal Binary, which means that they are compatible with both older systems and the new hardware line.

Other Markzware products are PDF2DTP and FlightCheck Pro. Here, it can be assumed that the adjustments will be made as soon as new versions are released. For PDF2DTP it is obvious that there will be a similar standalone product like QXPMarkz or IDMarkz. FlightCheck Pro is no longer under development and hopefully a new version will be released.

Markzware has been continuously developing products for well over 20 years now. Occasionally old products were discontinued to make room for new products. Reliable product development looks like this. You can be curious about the things that are in preparation.

IDMarkz and QXPMarkz run on MacOS 11 Big Sur.

If you have a current license for QXPMarkz or IDMarkz, you can download the latest version via your personal license URL

QXPMarkz: Markzware launches the successor of ID2Q

QXPMarkz: Markzware launches the successor of ID2Q

QXPMarkz replaces the previous ID2Q

5. June 2020In PublishingBy Karsten Risseeuw3 Minutes

Markzware has just launched QXPMarkz, a software for converting QuarkXPress documents. The new tool replaces the previous Q2ID, which was available as a plug-in for InDesign.

A new generation

A new generation of Markzware tools is created. Previous plug-ins are gradually being transformed into standalone products. After IDMarkz, QXPMarkz has now been released. While IDMarkz converts InDesign documents, QXPMarkz enables the conversion of XPress documents. Such a development is logical and has several advantages.

First, it no longer requires any additional software. ID2Q was previously a plug-in for Adobe InDesign and could only be used in conjunction with InDesign. Current solutions are stand-alone software solutions.

Secondly, the functionality becomes more versatile. When an XPress document is opened with QXPMarkz, it can be saved in IDML, PDF or one of several image formats. In addition, these formats allow the converted file to be opened directly in another software. This allows an XPress file to be edited directly in Affinity Publisher, but just as easily in Adobe InDesign.

Universal tool for Xpress documents

QXPMarkz is a universal tool for XPress documents. You do not need an XPress license to open original XPress documents. You get a preview (directly from the document data) and some more information about the document. The preview even allows you to flip through all pages of the document. This is something like a mini-preflighting function. Afterwards, the document can be converted in several formats and also be opened directly in popular software solutions.

QXPMarkz is a cost-effective and flexible way to convert any XPress document on demand. Very old documents may need to be converted to a newer XPress format using Quark’s own free conversion solution before they can be opened in QXPMarkz.

The cryptic names remain

Markzware produces real tongue twisters with the product names. Although all names are logical, it takes special attention when using them. However, the trend towards renewal seems to offer some benefits here as well:

  • ID2Q has been dropped, in its place IDMarkz appeared
  • Q2ID has been removed, in whose place QXPMarkz was just released.

The name is mission statement: IDMarkz opens and converts InDesign documents. QXPMarkz opens and converts QuarkXPress documents. Currently, only one plug-in remains, namely PDF2DTP. If there were a successor, what would the name of the new product be?

Annual license or continuous license

QXPMarkz can be purchased either as an annual license including all updates, or as an unlimited license without updates. When purchasing, the preferred version can be specified. The annual license is not a subscription and you do not have to renew it. The license expires automatically, but you can renew the license at any time.

IdMarkz converts InDesign documents to Affinity Publisher, XPress and other formats

IDMarkz converts InDesign documents

Standalone software converting to IDML, PDF, XPress and other formats

16. December 2019By Karsten Risseeuw3 Minutes

Markzware launched the new IDMarkz, a conversion software made to convert native InDesign documents (INDD) to a variety of other formats. This is especially usefull, if documents are only available in INDD format or no InDesign is accessible for conversino to IDML.

IDMarkz opens InDesign documents, offers a preview of all pages and several export options.

Markzware’s technology for converting various document formats has proven itself over the years. There are plug-ins for InDesign for importing PDF or XPRess documents. Even complex documents can be converted to InDesign in next to no time.

IDMarkz now works the other way. Any InDesign documents (INDD) can be opened with IDMarkz. IDMarkz is a standalone software (not a plug-in). InDesign documents can be opened in no time and even a preview of all pages is generated. This allows you to scroll quickly through a document and some information about the document offer something like simple preflighting.

The InDesign document can then be exported in a variety of other formats. The export formats include: IDML, PDF, XPRESS and various image formats.

If you don’t have InDesign, you can still convert documents, for example to XPress, Affinity Publisher or IDML for use with Viva Designer, older InDesign versions, etc.

From Adobe InDesign to Affinity Publisher

Adobe locks customers in a subscription system. If you no longer have InDesign, you can no longer open InDesign documents. Of course, this strategy annoys many customers. Adobe is at the same point as QuarkXPress once was. Many are wondering how things will continue?

IDMarkz gives users the freedom to determine for themselves which software is the right one. Even complex documents can be converted to various other formats very quickly and easily. This also includes an export option for the newcomer Affinity Publisher. It works like this: Affinity Publisher currently officially supports PDF as an import format. It works very well. IDML is also offered in the current beta version. So if you still have InDesign, you can convert documents in InDesign to IDML and then open them in Affinity.

The situation is not that simple for long-time users of InDesign. Often there are hundreds of customer documents. Not everyone can and would like to preventively export all documents to PDF and IDML. With IDMarkz this is no longer necessary. Native InDesign documents can be converted directly to PDF and IDML.

For Affinity Publisher it works like this: Open the INDD document in IDMarkz. Export to Affinity Publisher. Finished! Affinity Publisher will start automatically and the converted file will open.

Export to image files

IDMarkz also offers various export options according to image formats. InDesign no longer needs to be present just to generate a preview file or to generate image files for the website. IDMarkz does it in no time.

Convert publishing documents to InDesign in next to no time

Convert publishing documents in the blink of an eye

PDF to InDesign? No problem. InDesign to XPress? Works!

Once there and back again

Publishing documents can be converted. Of course, XPress, InDesign, VivaDesigner or Affinity Publisher have their own document formats. However, they are no longer isolated solutions. Today there are good conversion solutions with which documents of a certain program can also be opened in another program.

The best tools are from Markzware and can be purchased right here on the Kursiv website.

  • Q2ID converts XPress documents to InDesign
  • ID2Q converts InDesign documents to XPress
  • PDF2DTP converts any PDF document to InDesign

After the conversion, a new original domain is available. For example, if you open a QuarkXPress document in InDesign with the help of Q2ID, an original InDesign document is available when the conversion is completed (in no time at all). This can be changed, adapted, saved and used as if it were a regularly created InDesign document.

Before, afterwards

XPress documents can be opened in InDesign and processed immediately as genuine InDesign documents (Q2ID). The comparison image below shows a document: on the left in XPress and on the right converted to InDesign.

What can (not) be expected from conversions?

Conversions are never 100% identical. This has nothing to do with the conversion, but with the fact that publishing programs are not 100% the same. The interpretation of the same information and attitudes is almost the same, but there can (not: must) be differences. For example, what are the settings for text wrapping? Which special functions in one program are not supported in the other program? What is the spacing of a font? Are the settings rounded differently between different programs and is there a word that no longer fits on the page?

Conversion solutions, however good they are, cannot be used to keep moving documents back and forth. They are not suitable for the graphic artist to work in InDesign, but the customer with XPress, and for the data to be pushed back and forth in different formats.

Conversion software is intended to convert standing sentences or to do one-off conversions. You save the work, so to speak, from one program to the next software. Documents should then be checked and only then used. Years of experience have shown that you can get astonishingly close to the original document. This saves a lot of valuable time.

Anyone who uses conversion solutions has probably already earned the costs back with the first job. The only alternative would be to rebuild a document from scratch. However, if you do not have all the images but only a PDF file, for example, then a document cannot simply be rebuilt. With PDF2DTP, however, such a document can easily be converted and embedded images are exported cleanly and are then available again in InDesign.
